Online Notary
Remote Online Notarization (RON) lets you notarize documents securely through a video call—no in-person meeting required.
What Is Remote Online Notarization?
Remote Online Notarization allows you to have a document notarized online, using a secure video call, instead of meeting a notary in person. You can do it from home, work, or anywhere you feel comfortable—using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
The goal of RON is simple: make notarization more convenient without sacrificing security or legality.
Step 1: Preparing for Your Session (You’re in Control)
Before the notarization begins, you’ll receive clear instructions from the online notarization platform. Typically, you’ll need:
- A stable internet connection
- A device with a camera and microphone
- A valid, government-issued photo ID (like a driver’s license or passport)
- The document ready to sign (uploaded digitally)
Nothing happens without your consent. You choose when to start, and you can stop the process at any time if something doesn’t feel right.
Step 2: Identity Verification (Stronger Than In-Person)
This part is designed to protect you from fraud.
Most platforms use multiple layers of identity verification, which may include:
- ID Scan – You’ll take photos of your government-issued ID. The system checks security features to confirm it’s genuine.
- Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) – You may answer a few multiple-choice questions based on public records (for example, previous addresses). These are things only you should know.
- Live Visual Confirmation – The notary compares your live video image to your ID to confirm it’s really you.
This process is often more thorough than an in-person notarization, where a notary might only glance at an ID.
Step 3: Meeting the Notary (Live, Real, and Professional)
Once your identity is confirmed, you’re connected to a state-commissioned notary via secure, encrypted video.
The notary will:
- Introduce themselves
- Confirm your identity again visually
- Explain what they are notarizing
- Make sure you understand the document and are signing willingly
You can ask questions, take your time, and request clarification—just like you would in person.
Step 4: Reviewing and Signing the Document
You’ll see the document on your screen and can scroll through it before signing.
- You apply your electronic signature only when you’re ready
- The notary watches the signing in real time
- The notary then applies their electronic notary seal and signature
No one can alter the document afterward without it being detected.
Step 5: Secure Recording and Tamper Protection
For your protection and legal validity:
- The entire notarization session is audio-video recorded
- The completed document is tamper-evident, meaning any change would be obvious
- Records are securely stored according to state law
This creates a strong audit trail, which can be incredibly reassuring if the document is ever questioned.
Step 6: Receiving Your Notarized Document
After the session:
- You receive a secure copy of the notarized document
- You can download it immediately
- It’s legally valid and recognized in states that allow RON (and increasingly accepted nationwide)
You don’t have to worry about lost paperwork or unclear signatures.
Why You Can Feel Safe and Confident
- Multiple identity checks
- Encrypted technology
- State-regulated notaries
- Video proof of the signing
- Tamper-evident documents
Final Reassurance
You’re never rushed. You’re never pressured. You’re never left guessing.
Remote Online Notarization is designed to put your comfort, consent, and security first, while saving you time and eliminating unnecessary stress. If at any point something doesn’t feel right, you can pause, ask questions, or stop entirely.
